John Post, eldest son of Stephen Post, was born in England and christened 13 September 1629 in Otham, Kent, England. He married Hester Hyde, daughter of William Hyde, in March of 1651/52 at Saybrook. Hester was probably born in England, as well.
William Hyde and Stephen Post were among the original settlers of Hartford, Connecticut. After living at Hartford for a number of years, the Hydes and the Posts relocated to Saybrook, where they were also among the founding families. John and Hester (Hyde) Post were married at Saybrook where their four oldest children were born. (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ctscfa/founders.htm).
Together with Hester’s father, William Hyde, they removed to Norwich, Connecticut in 1660, within a year of the founding of that place, making them all among the first settlers of Norwich. The 35 original proprietors of that town included John and Hester, as well as her father, William Hyde, and her brother, Samuel Hyde. Most of these original proprietors of Norwich were from Saybrook, and East Saybrook (now Lyme). William Hyde’s home lot was across the street from John and Hester Post. John Post was active in town affairs and was an influential member of the community. (http://www.leffingwellhousemuseum.org/society-of-the-founders-of-norwich).
Hester (Hyde) Post died at Norwich 13 November 1703. John Post died there 10 February 1711 at age 83.
