BUTLER, John & wives

Cliff McCarthy, 2016

There is some confusion around the several John Butlers of Branford, Connecticut, so for my information I will depend on Donald Line Jacobus whose research on early Connecticut families was second to none. I am open to new information based on good research.

According to Jacobus, our John Butler — the father of John Butler, Jr. who married Hannah Potter — was “of Branford” and died there in 1679. He was married twice; first to a woman whose name is not known with whom he had five children, and second to Benedicta (surname unknown) who bore him three more children.
